While researching and reading about Winston Churchill, some things stood out about his personality.
He was bold and brash and had a very outgoing personality. He liked to be at the forefront of things and had no problem giving you his opinion. Along with that, he was a dynamic speaker. His personality caused him to be somewhat of a polarizing figure. Everyone loved to listen to his speeches. However, not everyone appreciated his opinion or that he was so free in giving it.
It was his goal to be the Prime Minister, but as time went on in his political life, it had ups and downs, often due to his personality.
As he got older, it looked more apparent that he would never be Prime Minister. At one point, even his wife privately thought he would never be the PM. Then came WWII, and it was clear that Churchill was the man for the job. It felt like destiny.
The thing is, even though, at one point, those closest to him doubted, he never did. He believed it was his destiny.
Don’t get it twisted. He had low moments, but through it all, he kept his faith that he would reach his goal.
This is something we can learn from. We must hold on to the promises and calling of God. Even when those who love us and believe in us the most start to doubt was must put our trust in the Lord and his promises.
Because we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose, and we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.
While Churchills belief in God was shaky at best, he did have faith that it was his destiny to become Prime Minister. Because of that, he put time and energy into reaching that goal.
When God speaks to us, we must put time and energy into our calling and purpose. We are responsible for growing and positioning ourselves so that when the time is right, we are ready. Churchill was more than ready to lead as Prime Minister when the time came.
James 2:18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works.
When doubt comes into the picture, the first thing that seems to go is our faith which means the actions we were putting behind our faith disappear as well. This is why it is important not to let your feelings control your actions.
There were wilderness years for Churchill where there wasn’t much he could do, and it didn’t look like he would ever achieve what he longed to do. During those times, he simply did what he could do. He didn’t slack off or give up. He just kept plugging away, and it paid off.
Through the twists and turns of life, keep your focus on what God has called you to be. Don’t let doubt slip in and cause you to stop working towards your purpose, because at the end of the day. “I can do all things through [f]Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
