The Whole World In His Hands

We have all heard the song He’s got the whole world in his hands. Which was originally an African American spiritual sang as they worked in the cotton fields in slavery.

I wonder how much we really think about what that phrase means. Since he holds the whole world in his hands, what exactly is everyone so worried about?

If you aren’t one of his children that has no relationship with him, I could understand why you would worry. While the world would consume you with fear.

If you’re pushing an agenda not aligning with his kingdom, I could understand why you would be afraid and nervous.

However, if you are one of his then why worry? Why are you afraid? Why are you letting the whole world control your emotions and feelings? When you serve a God who is the prince of peace and can provide every need.

The ones who first sang these lyrics had reasons to be upset, but they understood that even in bondage God had everything in His hands with plans they could trust. They found their joy in him and not in what the world was forcing them to go through.

I wonder if they ever thought of this song when freedom finally came and President Lincoln set them free. Because God took what was evil and turned it around and set them free. While they still had things to overcome, they could lean on the fact that He has the whole world in his hands.

When you have a strong relationship with God, you will not become consumed by things of this world. You will know that he has what’s best for you in mind as Rom 8:28 says.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

When leaning on this verse, you’ll need not worry because he has your whole world in his hands.
